I have been reluctant to make large dining tables because they are difficult to get to and from the various shows where I dispalay my tables. I stumbled on a design for a modified 'tank trap' with four legs and had it fabricated in 1 1/4 " steel tubing. Its strong enogh to hold the table top and me! The top just sits on the 4 legs, so its easy to move the base and top seperately.
The focus stone is a large piece of petrified wood I got at the Lakewood Gem and Mineral Show last year. The Lyon'ssandstone is from one of the Quarries in Lyons just 12 miles from my home in Boulder, Colorado. The patina on thin steel rim and sturdy legs was acquired in the 'weathering facility' I have in my back yard. (stop by and see it!)
This will make a spectacular kitchen or dinning table, that will compliment most decor.
